About the Academy

The President's Future Leaders Academy was established in 2009 at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College to provide quality professional development experiences to nominated and selected faculty and staff exhibiting the potential for effective leadership.

The Academy is designed to introduce Southern employees to key concepts of community college leadership and to provide activites that will encourage participants to learn, enhance, improve, and practice their personal leadership skills.  Participants are provided opprtunities to increase their awareness of the complexity of issues facing the College and postsecondary education. Class members are challenged to expand their understanding of the enironment in which College decisions are made.

Participants are selected through an application process that begins in the spring with a cohort group identified in April.  The curriculum includes reading assignments, discussion groups, interaction with various campus units, monthly seminars, and hands-on activities.  Participants may receive up to six hours of college credit at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.  Questions regarding course requirements should be directed to Pauline Sturgill.

The President's Office is actively recruiting its second class for the President's Future Leaders Academy.  Applications are being accepted through April 15, 2010.
