Savas-Kostas Outstanding Faculty Award
![]() | Vernon R. Elkins Professor Vernon R. Elkins, Medical Laboratory Technology Program Coordinator, began his career at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in 1991. Professor Elkins is certified as a Medical Technologist and a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by national credentialing agencies. He is a long serving member of Southern's Faculty Senate and an active member of the West Virginia Society of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. He was a recipient of the Savas-Kostas Award for Excellence in 1997 and the West Virginia Community College Association Award in 1998. We applaud his distinguished service. After graduating from Logan High School in 1973, Professor Elkins received an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Southern in 1976. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Marshall University in 1978, and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at Marshall University Graduate College in 1997. He resides with his wife, Terry, in Chapmanville, West Virginia. |
