Cindy Whitlock, Director of Student Assistance at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, recently received the Person of the Year Award from the West Virginia Community College Association during a state conference held at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV.
This award is given to employees who have made a substantial contribution and significant impact on the operations of their institution.
Some of the recent initiatives cited in Whitlock's nomination include: FAFSA online assistance, the process of applying for federal assistance electronically to expedite results; automation of the financial assistance process utilizing technology to eliminate unnecessary paperwork; and her interdepartmental coordination with the bookstore, cashier, admissions, records, and computer services helps create a seamless workflow to minimize student turnaround time.
"Cindy's dedication to Southern manifests itself in her willingness to serve the institution in a larger capacity. Cindy contributes to institutional governance by serving on several committees, including acting as Vice Chair for the Business Administration, Records and Financial Aid Committee and Chair of the Financial Assistance Appeals Committee," stated Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, president of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
Whitlock is a graduate of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, as well as Marshall University. She has been employed with Southern for 18 years and is a member of the West Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
