Allied Health Advisory Meeting

The Division of Allied Health held its Fall Advisory meeting on November 4, 2005, at the Earl Ray Tomblin Convention Center. Allied Health Advisory meetings are held twice a year and provide members the opportunity to discuss programs, students, and needs. This was an excellent meeting, stated Pamela L. Alderman, Administrative Vice President and Dean of Allied Health. We had individuals at the meeting representing every area of healthcare from Putnam County, West Virginia to Pike County, Kentucky. The attendance says a lot about our programs. Southern's Allied Health programs have a reputation for setting the standard statewide. Pass rates on national licensure and certification exams are exceptional for all Allied Health programs. Allied Health graduates are heavily recruited and graduates who are seeking jobs are employed prior to graduation. Southern offers Associate in Applied Science degrees in Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology. Certificate programs offered are Electrocardiography and Medical Laboratory Assistant. I am very proud of the Allied Health programs, the coordinators, faculty, staff and students, Alderman said, We have worked hard throughout the years to make the programs a success. Those attending the advisory meeting were representatives from Logan Regional Medical Center, Williamson ARH Hospital, Charleston Area Medical Center, Williamson Memorial Hospital, Pikeville Medical Center, Regional EMS/TSN, McDowell County EMS, Community Health Foundation, West Virginia Rehabilitation Center, Dignity Hospice, Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority, West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, Thomas Memorial Hospital, Putnam General Hospital, Thomas Memorial Hospital, Lincoln EMS, and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
