The West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses conducted a successful accreditation site visit in April at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. The board periodically surveys all nursing education programs accredited by the board, including all satellite sites of any program. The last visit to Southern by the Board of Nursing was in 1999. An official report of the 2006 accreditation visit will be made in June following the board meeting. The nursing program at Southern is nationally accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The last NLNAC site visit occurred in 2002 and the program received the maximum length of accreditation, 8 years, without any recommendations or concerns. "This visit by the Board of Nursing was excellent. Nursing Coordinator Barbara Donahue, faculty, staff and students are to be commended," stated Pamela L. Alderman, administrative vice-president and dean of allied health. "Without the support of President Joanne Tomblin and Executive Vice President Merle Dempsey this program would not be as successful."
