CEDAR holds Teacher's Coal Study Unit and Student Scholarship Banquet

CEDAR of Southern West Virginia, Inc. held its annual Teacher's Coal Study Unit and Student Scholarship Banquet on May 25 at the Logan Country Club.

The Guest Speaker was William "Bill" B. Raney, President of the West Virginia Coal Association who was introduced by Georgene Robertson, President of CEDAR of Southern West Virginia, Inc. Special music was provided by Matewan kindergarten students. Teachers from Boone, Logan and Mingo counties were recognized for their participation in the CEDAR Coal Study Units by Susan Dingess, Coal Study Unit Manager. The CEDAR Scholarship recipients were Curry P. Anderson, III, Matewan High School; Savannah L. Baisden, Van High School; Corbin E. Dameron, Tug Valley High School; Adam T. Ferrell, Sherman High School; Stacie N. Gambill, Man High School; Eric D. Hager, Scott High School; Dorothy A. Muncy, Gilbert High School; Shelly R. Rose, Tug Valley High School and Kari N. Thornsbury, Burch High School. These students received a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College this fall.
