Several new and expanded programs are being offered this fall at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, including an associate degree in Mine Management.
According to Pamela L. Alderman, Dean of Career and Technical Programs, six new or expanded degree and certificate programs are being made available to students looking for additional career options.
Associate degree programs being offered at the Boone/Lincoln Campus include Accounting and Survey Management. Due to numerous requests, the accounting classes will be offered in the evenings, Alderman said. Also, a certificate program in Survey Management is available. Beginning in the spring of 2009, an LPN to RN program will be offered pending approval from the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses. The Boone Campus will be hosting an Open House on Tuesday, August 12th at 6 p.m. where the public can meet with college representatives to learn more about the new programs.
On the Logan Campus, a new Mine Management degree will be offered this fall. This associate degree program is designed to educate individuals who will be employed as mid-level managers in the mining industry, both surface and underground. Five classes are currently available on line and four weekend courses are being offered this fall. Admission criteria includes eligibility to enter college level English and math; current EMT-M certification and surface and/or underground mine certification.
For those interested in pursuing an entry level career in allied health, a certificate program in Electrocardiology (EKG) is also being offered this fall at the Williamson and Boone campuses, as well as the Beckley Site. Also, applications will be accepted through September 30, 2008 for the Respiratory Care Technology program located at the Williamson Campus. The public is invited to an Open House on Tuesday, August 12th at 10 a.m. to learn more about new programs.
For more information about any of these programs, contact Dean Alderman at 304-896-7302 or email her at pama@southern.wvnet.edu. For a complete list of class offerings visit the web site at www.southernwv.edu.
The final day to register for fall classes is Friday, August 15th. Saturday classes will start on August 16th and regular classes will begin on Monday, August 18th.
