Adult Basic Education/Eddie Canterbury Educational Scholarship

Established in 2005 by Eddie Canterbury and available only to G.E.D. recipients, preferably those who completed the program at a Southern campus/site.  The scholarship recognizes the importance and value of adult basic education and assisting students pursue a higher education.  Please attach a 200-300 word essay to the application that explains how a college education will help you achieve your goals.  Award amounts vary.    Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

A.D. Scaggs, Jr. Scholarship

Established in 2005 by local businessmen Owen Osenton, Neal Scaggs and families to honor their late business partner, A. D. "Buster" Scaggs.  This scholarship is designated for graduating seniors from Man High School, Logan High School, and Chapmanville Regional High School.  Recipients must be residents of Logan County and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Amount: $300-$600 per academic year; limited to two semesters per recipient.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Scholarship

The ARC Scholarship is a "needs-based" scholarship program for students who have been adversely impacted by the downturn in the coal industry.   Those who qualify to apply for the scholarship are displaced coal miners and their immediate family members.  Eligible students must reside in Boone, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming Counties.   Priority consideration will be given to those students who reside in the counties of Lincoln and McDowell.  The amount of the award will vary depending on financial need.   The scholarship will cover educational expenses, such as tuition and textbooks, and other necessary expenses if the need is documented.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  The application deadline is July 1 for the Fall semester and January 1 for the Spring semester.

Barney Frazier, Jr. Scholarship

Established in 2007 by Man High School graduates, Jacqueline and Barney Frazier.  The scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Man High School and the recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.  The award amount is $500 per academic year.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Carrie Anne Scott Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2004 by the Scott family and the Madison Middle School Student Council to celebrate the life of Carrie Anne Scott, who was a teacher and Student Council sponsor at Madison Middle School.  Scholarship criteria:  must be a graduate of Scott High School, must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must attach a brief essay of 100 words or less indicating your educational and career goals.  Award amount is $1,000.00 for one acadmic year.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Carter Family Foundation Scholarship

The Carter Family Scholarship is available to full and part-time students in Raleigh and Wyoming Counties attending the Wyoming/McDowell Campus of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.  Awards vary and can be used for tuition, textbooks, and/or educational expenses.  Currently not accepting applications.


CEDAR (Coal Education Development and Resource) Scholarship

The CEDAR of Southern West Virginia, Inc. Scholarship program at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College provides ten (10) $1,000.00 scholarships to high school seniors only from the CEDAR participating counties of Mingo, Logan, Boone, McDowell, Wyoming and Wayne.  The award may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.   Please refer to the scholarship application for the additional requirements.  The application deadline was April 14, 2017.   Applications are not being accepted at this time.

Cliffs Natural Resources, Inc. Technical Scholarship Program

Provide scholarships to students entering into a technical certificate or degree program at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.  The scholarship award may be used for tuition, textbooks, fees, supplies and equipment, as needed.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher, provide an essay of 200 words or less on why you are choosing a technical degree program of study, and attend any Southern campus location.  Special preference will be given to students who reside in Logan, Wyoming and McDowell Counties.  Award amount is $1,000 per academic year.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application to the Development Office.  Currently not accepting applications.
 


COTIGA Scholarships

Cotiga Development Company, LP is a long-standing land and mineral resource company.  COTIGA stands for coal (CO), timber (TI), and gas (GA).  The Cotiga Development Company, LP established the following scholarships in honor of family members: Edward Randolph Wood, Jr. Scholarship, Stuart Wood Scholarship and Richard D. Wood III Scholarship.  In 2005 Cotiga established the following scholarship to honor the memory of a long-time employee:  John V. Ramey Scholarship.  Cotiga also funds the scholarships awarded to the Appalachian Leadership Academy Fellows. Cotiga Scholarships are awarded to students who reside in Mingo County and are based on the Williamson Campus.  Applicants must be non-traditional students (age 22 or older),  must be a high school graduate or have GED with a minimum score of 40.  The scholarship award is based on student financial need and academic promise.   The scholarship is renewable; the student must reapply each semester but renewal is not guaranteed.  Renewal applicants must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The student is required to submit a letter to the Cotiga Development Company expressing appreciation for the award to:  Mr. Eddie Curry, Cotiga Development Company, LP, P. O. Box 1956, Williamson, WV 25661.  The award amount varies and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15 for the Fall semester and October 15 for the Spring semester.

Credit Bureau of the Virginias at Wyoming Campus

Established in 2000 by the Credit Bureau of The Virginias Foundation, Inc., awarding four $1000 scholarships each academic year.  Available to students attending the Wyoming/McDowell Campus of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, must be a resident of Wyoming or McDowell County, and high school GPA must be within the 2.0 to 3.0 range.  The mission of the Credit Bureau of The Virginias is to assist average students in obtaining a degree, certification, skill or trade.  The scholarship award may be used for tuition, textbooks and/or fees.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit applications to David Lord, Director of Wyoming-McDowell Campus Operations by August 1 for Fall semester and December 1 for Spring semester.

Everett and Mary Thompson Endowment Scholarship

Established by the family of the late Everett and Mary Thompson, residents of Mingo County and business leaders.  Applicants must be a graduate of Mingo Central High School, have minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, and provide a brief statement expressing your background, college plans, and why you should receive this scholarship.  Award amounts vary and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Garland C. and Verline Scaggs Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2007 by Ronald H. and Nancy Lee Scaggs and Barney and Jacqueline Frazier in hopes that students will benefit in their pursuit of a quality education.  Applicants must be a graduate of Man High School, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.  Awards vary and may be used for tuition, textbooks, and/or fees.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Hannah Lumber Company Scholarship

The Hannah Lumber Company Scholarship was established in 2002 by Diann and Everett Hannah, lifelong residents of Mingo County and business and civic leaders.   Applicants must be a graduating senior from Mingo Central High School, Tug Valley High School, Ambassador Christian Academy or Tolsia High School in Wayne County and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.   Award amount is $1,000 per academic year and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Dee and Sam Kapourales Scholarship

Dee and Sam Kapourales, lifelong residents of Mingo County and civic leaders, established this scholarship to make educational opportunities available to students in southern West Virginia.  Applicants must be a graduating senior from Mingo Central High School and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Award amounts vary and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Kimberly Pierce Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was named in honor of the late Kimberly Pierce, a student at Logan High School.  Kimberly was tragically taken from her family and this scholarship was established to honor her memory.  Applicants must be a graduate of Logan HIgh School, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and provide a 200-300 word essay describing your future goals and how you will achieve these goals.  Award amount is $1,000 per academic year and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Logan Coal Vendors Scholarship

The Logan Coal Vendors Association was established in 2001 to promote coal education and local development in our area, and higher education opportunities for local students.  Three $1,000 scholarships are awarded each academic year.  Applicants must be a graduating senior from Man High School, Logan High School or Chapmanville Regional High School, demonstrate your activity in school clubs and organizations, provide an essay of 100-150 words expressing why "coal" is so important to this area, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.

Logan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship

Full tuition and up to $500 in textbooks for one academic year.  Payment will be made directly to the College.  Student may not receive financial aid from other sources, including a Pell Grant.  Applications may be picked up at the respective schools or at the gift shop at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Applications MUST be returned to LRMC Auxiliary no later than May 1st.  No applications will be accepted after May 1st.

Logan Rotary Club Scholarship

This scholarship is designated for students at Logan High School who are involved in community and civic activities, and organizations that exhibit leadership skills.  Award amount is $1,000 per academic year and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.

Melvin Riggs Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2005 from the estate of the late Melvin Riggs.  Mr. Riggs was a retired businessman from Lake Havasu, Arizone, and formerly from Logan, West Virginia.  Applicants must be non-traditional students (age 22 or older),demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Award amounts vary and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15 for the Fall semester and by October 15 for the Spring semester.

Man Pic Pac Food Stores Scholarship

Established in 2001 by Lee and Billie Noel, local business entrepreneurs, to provide educational opportunities for students in the Man, West Virginia area.  Applicants must be a graduating senior at Man High School, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, and write a 50-100 word essay describing your educational goals, your community/civic involvement and why you should receive this scholarship.  Three scholarships are awarded each academic year in the amount of $1,000 and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Mike McGraw Memorial Scholarship

$1,000 award per academic year
Submit application to David Lord by the first day of class for the Fall and Spring semesters.  Must be a non-traditional student (age 22 or older) and reside in Wyoming County.  Current students GPA must be 2.5 or higher.  Volunteer in Wyoming County and provide a reference letter regarding work ethics and character.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.

Osenton Family Scholarship

Established in May 2001 by Phyllis and Owen Osenton of Logan, West Virginia.  Phyllis is a retired educator from the Logan County school system and her husband, Owen, is a retired businessman.  Both are graduates of Man High School.  Applicants must be a graduating senior at Man High School who will attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, must write a 50-100 word essay describing your educational goals, your community/civic involvement, why you should receive the scholarship and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Award amount is $1,000 per academic year and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Pardee Resources Company Scholarship

Established in 2005 by Pardee Resources Company, who owns and manages land holdings in southern and central West Virginia and Pennsylvania, including properties in Boone, Logan, Mingo and Wyoming Counties.  Their roots in West Virginia go back to the late 1800's, when founder, Calvin Pardee, purchased his first property in Logan County.  Award pays for tuition, textbooks, and/or related educational expenses up to $2,500 per academic year for students residing in Logan, Mingo, Boone, and Wyoming Counties.  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.   Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15 for the Fall semester and by October 15 for the Spring semester.

Shell Family Scholarship

Established in 2006 by native Logan Countian and Huntington resident, Robert Shell, Jr., his wife, Lena, mother Doris, and other Shell family members.  Designated for students planning to gradate from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College with plans to continue their educational goals at Marshall University.  Applicants must be a graduating senior from Logan High School and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The award amount is $1,000 per academic year and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.  Submit application by April 15.

Sherry Adkins Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2008 to honor the life of the late Sherry Stepp-Adkins.  Sherry was a Radiologic Technologist at Putnam General Hospital.  The scholarship was established by her family and friends.  Applicants must be a high school or GED recipient, must be accepted into the Radiologic Technology program at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Two $500 awards per academic year ($250 for two semesters) and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks.  Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this scholarship.

Southern West Virginia Community College Foundation Scholarship

The Southern West Virginia Community College Foundation Scholarships are awarded to assist students in acquiring a quality education.  Students must complete an "Application for Admission" to Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher.   Must be a high school graduate or a GED recipient.  Traditional and non-traditional (22 years or older) may apply.  Applications must be completed and submitted prior to each semester.  Award amounts vary and may be used for tuition and/or textbooks. 
Submit application by April 15 for the Fall semester and by October 15 for the Spring semester.
