Diana Jividen is being recognized as the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, May Faculty Member of the Month.
Jividen graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s from West Virginia University.
She started her job at Southern April 1, 2005 (April Fool’s Day). She joined the transitional studies department and remains there, teaching – English EN099 Beginning Composition and EN090 Reading Composition.
Jividen describes her responsibilities as, showing students respect, exposing them to proper grammar, to eliminate “ain’t” from their vocabulary and to show them how important reading is to their life and well-being.
She sponsors the honor society, Chi Alpha Epsilon, and exclaims it to be a wonderful experience. “The society recognizes the hard work the students who qualify have done and is important to the students and their parents”, she said.
She says she enjoys working with the students and ‘loves to watch them mature and grow wiser in their college years.’
Jividen serves on a subcommittee of the Enrollment Management Committee and was recently elected as a representative for the Williamson Campus in the Senate.
Her summer plans are to visit her son in Los Angeles, daughter in Pittsburgh and her sister in Myrtle Beach.
