Southern to Participate in Skills USA

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College will participate in the SkillsUSA competition on March 31, 2017 in Fairmont, West Virginia. Students participating are Alberto Coffin, Jake Compton, Arron Copley and Charles Maynard in welding; Jessica Goins, Helena Surber, Chastidy Wiley, Jardrian Saunders and Katelyn Thompson in cosmetology. Shane Blackburn will represent Southern in the Mechatronics in Prepared Speech competition. Instructors Sheridan Taylor and Irma Colegrove will accompany the teams. SkillsUSA is a national organization serving individuals enrolled in career and technical education programs at our nation’s high schools and colleges.  SkillsUSA’s mission is to develop our members into world-class workers and entrepreneurs as well as responsible American citizens.  Skills complements technical skill training with the development of employability skills that make a well-rounded worker and citizen. A special meet and greet reception for the teams will be held on Tuesday, March 28 at noon in the Allied Technology Building on the Williamson Campus for the technology students. Cosmetology students will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 29 at 11:00am in the first floor lobby of Building C on the Logan Campus. The public is invited to attend.
