Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Board of Governors Elect 2013-2014 Officers

The 12-member Board of Governors is the governing body of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Of the 12 members, nine are citizen members appointed by the Governor, and three are institutional members elected by the constituent group they represent faculty, classified staff, and student body. Members of the Board of Governors work cooperatively with the college president and administration to establish institutional governance and strategic planning.

Board Chair, Tom Heywood, thanked Mr. George Morrison (outgoing faculty representative) for his outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to the Board over the past eight years, and for generously giving of his time and talent in support of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.  Mr. Morrison’s term as Faculty Representative to the Board has concluded, and Ms. Mary Nemeth-Pyles will assume that role effective July 1, 2013.  Chair Heywood read a proposed resolution honoring Mr. Morrison for his service, leadership, and dedication to the College and Board of Governors.  The resolution was unanimously approved by the Board and will become a part of the official meeting minutes.

In addition to Heywood, Zigmond, and Yost, citizen members appointed by the Governor include Linda Q. Akers, Shelly Huffman, Jada Hunter, George Kostas, and Terry Sammons. Southern's institutional members include Mary Nemeth-Plyles (faculty representative), Debbie Dingess (classified staff representative), and Eileen Aranas (student representative).

“We are fortunate to have a board with such a bold and exciting vision to benefit and support our mission,” said Tomblin. “We will benefit from the strong guidance of a board that understands the critical role of Southern in the community.”
