RCBI Marketing & Social Media Luncheon to be hosted at Southern's Logan Campus

Southern is partnering with the Robert C. Byrd Institute, Hatfield-McCoy Trails, and the Hatfield-McCoy Convention & Visitors Bureau to present a FREE Marketing and Social Media Luncheon on May 23, from 10 AM to 2 PM, in room 111 of Building A on our Logan Campus. The luncheon is geared at helping small businesses learn how to develop an effective marketing and social media strategy. The lunch and workshop is free, but you must register to attend. First Year Nursing Students visit West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM)

First Year Students, from Southern's Nursing program, visited the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) in Lewisburg, WV, April 19th, 2017, for Anatomy Lab Day. The students participated with cadavers to identify the pathophysiology linked to the cause of death (autopsy), identified normal/abnormal diagnostic x-rays, used microscopes identifying normal/abnormal tissues, and viewed various diseased organs. The students gained insight into how the human body works both critically and “hands on”.

Ramaco Holds Job Fair at Southern's Logan Campus

Southern was host to Ramaco's job fair this past weekend. The turnout, for this event, filled our parking lots to capacity with job-seekers. Carl Baisden, Director of Southern's Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies, commented that it was "one of the largest job fairs we have done in my 10+ years at Southern," and that "over 800 applications were given out" during the day's activities.

Community College Students Gain New Opportunities to Further Education: CTCS and Marshall University Create Transfer Agreement for RBA Degree

CHARLESTON, WV, December 21, 2017– The West Virginia Community and Technical College System (CTCS) facilitated an agreement between its nine (9) member schools and Marshall University last week.

The agreement allows students at any of the system’s nine community and technical colleges to continue their education to receive a Regents Bachelor of Arts (RBA) degree from Marshall University. Marshall will accept students who remain in good standing with their community college and allow up to 72 hours of college credit to be transferred for credit toward their RBA degree.

Southern and Hatfield-McCoy Recreation Authority featured in West Virginia Executive Magazine

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has granted funding to the Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority as part of the POWER Initiative to help market the trail and assist potential entrepreneurs. Coupled with a separate ARC grant to the Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIF), the funds have helped establish a program in partnership with Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC). Together, they aim to provide business coaching, small business training and risk capital to entrepreneurs developing businesses to support the in-demand trail system.

Tug Valley Job and Resource Fair Today!

Southern will join with area businesses and organizations today, Thursday, August 3 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Belfry High School for the Tug Valley Job and Resource Fair. Employers and representatives from WestVirginia and Kentucky to talk about employment opportunities. Southern representatives will be on site to talk about exciting new programs and educational opportunities offered at the college. Congressmen Hal Rogers (KY-5), and Evan Jenkins (WV-3) will also be in attendance. Belfry High School is located at 27672 US Highway 119 North, in Belfry, Kentucky

Melissa Deskins, Classified Staff Representative to Southern's Board of Governors, was administered the Oath of Office by Samuel Litteral, Vice President for Finance and Administration, before the full Board during its meeting on April 18, 2017. Ms. Deskins was elected in March 2017 to fulfill the unexpired term of Virginia Stepp.
