Dr. Gee to Address Southern Graduates

Logan, WV- Dr. E. Gordon Gee, President of West Virginia University will address the 2014 graduating class of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College on May 17, 2014. Commencement Exercises will take place beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Coalfield Jamboree Theater in downtown Logan.

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College is pleased to announce a new agreement that offers an approved apprenticeship for students.

The agreement was signed with Unilin NA, LLC, Robert C. Byrd Institute and the U.S. Department of Labor/Office of Apprenticeship. The program was planned to enhance the skill level of employees and offer education options to enhance their employment goals.

Student 1098-T Forms

Student 1098-T Forms

1098-T tax forms have been mailed out. The only students who will receive a 1098-T are those who paid all or part of their tuition out-of-pocket (i.e. cash, check, or credit card). Students whose tuition was paid in full by financial aid, scholarships, or an outside agency will not receive a 1098-T. Only those students who paid their tuition themselves can qualify for the tax credit. Respiratory Care Program at Wyoming McDowell Campus

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College will extend the deadline for Medical Assisting and Respiratory Care Technology for two weeks, and only for the Wyoming/McDowell Campus. To qualify, students must have been registered for 12 or more credit hours, and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher Each student’s name and hometown listed below are included on the Fall 2013 Dean’s List. ALA Presents to Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce

ALA Presents to Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce
On November 12, Appalachian Leadership Academy students spoke to the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce about the value of using entrepreneurship in rural communities as an effective strategy for economic development. The students made a case for entrepreneurship and provided examples of rural communities that have turned their economies around using this strategy. Students participating were: Jason May, Jennie Branham, Angela White, Haley Cook, Mary Fields, Jennifer Ray, Nicholas Allen, Kayla Colegrove and Shannon Cook.

A President’s Student Circle Brunch was held this week on the Wyoming Campus. Students had the opportunity to share their ideas about the college. Dr. Debra Teachman, Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs, also joined the group.
