Black History Month comes alive...Ilene Evans took time to sign autographs on Tuesday at Man Central following her portrayal as Harriet Tubman, the leader of the Underground Railroad. Approximately 400 students filled the gymnasium as they heard about the struggles and triumphs of Mrs. Tubman who is known as "General Moses." Tubman, a former field slave, lived from 1820 through 1913. The West Virginia Humanities Council's History Alive! program was sponsored by Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in partnership with APPALREAD and the Logan/Boone Chapter of the NAACP. As part of Harmony Week 2006, Evans will be portraying educator and civil rights leader Memphis T. Garrison, on March 1st at 10 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Williamson and on March 2nd at 9 a.m. at the Savas-Kostas Theater located on the Logan Campus of Southern.
