
The Williamson Branch of the NAACP celebrated its 60th birthday with a ceremony held on Saturday, December 1st at Williamson High School. Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College President Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, announced the college's commitment to become a Diamond Level Sponsor of the NAACP. She also announced the establishment of the Willene Moore, Woman of Inspiration Scholarship, which will be awarded each year to a Williamson area student.
The evening's keynote speaker was James Tolbert past president of the West Virginia NAACP. He recently retired after serving for 21 years. The Williamson Branch was established on December 8, 1947 and was led by the late Bishop D.R. Perkins. John W. Fullen serves as the current president.
