Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College will be offering a Homebrewing 101 Class on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at its Wyoming / McDowell Campus at Saulsville. Participants will learn about the science of fermentation and will brew a small batch of Dead Ringer India Pale Ale. A second session of this class will meet Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 6:00 where participants will prime and bottle their fermented creation. The cost is $75 which includes materials. Participants must be 21 to register and attend.

The classes will be led by Chuck Orange of Rock View who began making wine in the early 1070s. He began brewing beer shortly after it became legal in the late 1970s. “Like many people, I started from a kit of malt extract with some mashed ingredients. It was very rewarding that my first brew experience was successful as that encouraged me to continue learning and to become a better home brewer. I started to log my experiences when I continued brewing after retirement. I entered a few competitions but won nothing better than 1st place in the beer style entered. That does not bother me as friends enjoy my brews and keep encouraging me to try new things” says Orange. He adds that “I have gone from a relatively simple start with one brew kettle to now using a micro-computer controlled three vessel system and temperature controlled fermenting.”

Pre-registration for this class is required. Please call 304-896-7440 to register and for more information.
