Faculty Member Honored with Statewide Mentorship Award

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College proudly announces that Ashleigh Barnette, second-year nursing faculty member, will be recognized as the recipient of the 2025 Mentorship Award at the annual awards ceremony hosted by the West Virginia Nurses Association. The ceremony will take place this Sunday, February 22, in Charleston.
The Mentorship Award honors nursing professionals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to guiding, supporting, and inspiring the next generation of nurses. Barnette’s dedication to student success and professional development reflects Southern’s mission to provide high-quality, career-focused education and strong leadership within the healthcare field.
Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College faculty, staff, and administration are proud to celebrate Barnette’s achievement and will be in attendance to support her during this prestigious statewide recognition.
Barnette expressed her gratitude for the honor, stating:
“I am truly humbled and deeply honored to be selected as the 2025 recipient of the WVNA Mentorship Award. To be recognized by the West Virginia Nurses Association in this way is incredibly meaningful to me.
Mentorship is one of the most rewarding parts of my nursing journey. Investing in students and fellow nurses, walking alongside them as they grow in confidence and competence, and witnessing their passion for patient care develop is a great privilege. I believe our profession is strengthened when we intentionally support and uplift one another, and I am grateful for every opportunity I have had to do so.
Thank you to WVNA for this recognition and for your continued advocacy and leadership for nurses across our state. I am sincerely appreciative and look forward to celebrating with everyone at the Celebration of Nurses on Sunday.”
Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College congratulates Ashleigh Barnette on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for her continued commitment to excellence in nursing education and mentorship.
