After working over 35 years in the coal industry in a variety of supporting roles, Joe came to Southern in 2017 as Director of Campus Operations on the Logan Campus. During his 20-year career at Walker Machinery (a heavy equipment dealership), he graduated from several leadership and training programs including Caterpillar Tractor Company’s Flagship Management program. During this time, he enrolled at Southern WV Community and Technical College in 2004, which was a life changing move for a person in their mid-forties. During the changing coal economic climate, he began working at Hobet Mining in 2011 in the Materials Management Department and worked his way through the ranks to become the Data System Administrator at the corporate office of Patriot Coal Corporation. He is very active in his community serving on the Board of Directors for the Boone County Economic Authority and the Coal River Group of St. Albans. Linville remains very active in broadcasting as he has served as the ‘Voice of the (Scott High) Skyhawks’ for over 25 years. He is very active at the Madison Baptist Church where he serves on various boards and committees and is the Audio/Video Technician. He earned the Eagle Scout award as a youth and has served in many positions of leadership during his 25-plus years with the Boy Scouts including Scoutmaster at the National BSA Jamboree and the Advancement Chairman for the Buckskin Council.
