Southern WV Community & Technical College student Brayden Williamson was honored last week at the West Virginia House of Delegates as a recipient of the National John Lewis Youth Leadership Award. The award was presented by Kris Warner on behalf of the National Association of Secretaries of State.

The National John Lewis Youth Leadership Award recognizes young leaders across the United States who demonstrate outstanding dedication to civic engagement, leadership, and service to their communities. Williamson was one of only thirty-one individuals nationwide selected to receive the award.

Williamson shared the recognition with Josh Holstein, making the honor especially meaningful for southern West Virginia.

“It was truly an honor to receive the National John Lewis Youth Leadership Award,” said Williamson. “To be recognized among only thirty-one individuals in the nation is incredibly humbling. I’m especially proud to share this honor with Delegate Josh Holstein. Two young men from Boone and Logan Counties being recognized on a national level is something very special, and it’s an opportunity to highlight the strength and potential of our region.”

Williamson expressed appreciation for those who have supported him along the way.

“I want to thank my Mom, Dad, and my sweetheart Jocie for being there and supporting me,” he said. “I’m grateful for this recognition and will continue working every day, as much as possible, to serve and uplift the people of our state.”

The award presentation took place at the West Virginia State Capitol during a special recognition ceremony.
